An Update on Our CBO/NGO Registration Journey
Transparency has been core to RTI's identity since day one — so as we continue our journey toward formal CBO/NGO registration in Kenya, we want to share an honest update on where things stand.
Since our founding, RTI has operated as a grassroots, unregistered community-based organisation, guided entirely by refugee leadership and community trust. As our four core programs have grown, so has the need to formalize our legal structure — both to protect our work and to unlock deeper partnerships with donors and institutions.
Where We Are Today
- Founding documents and governance structure drafted
- Engaging legal partners familiar with Kenyan CBO/NGO registration requirements
- Building out basic financial record-keeping and reporting systems
- Establishing a leadership team structure to meet registration requirements
What's Left to Do
Formal registration in Kenya involves several administrative and legal steps, including documentation review, governance requirements, and compliance processes. We're working through these methodically, with support from partners who understand the local regulatory landscape.
